With her sister EDINBURGH CASTLE, this splendid ship marked a return to steam turbine propulsion after a succession of pace setting pre-war motor ships.
Designed for the famed service linking Southampton with the Cape, PRETORIA CASTLE sailed to an exacting schedule with passengers, cargo and mail.
Depicted as built, by Harland & Wolff Limited, Belfast, her profile was drastically
altered in 1965
when the foremast was truncated and a new mast stepped abaft the bridge.
Later still she was transferred to the South African Marine Corporation and renamed S. A. ORANJE.
